Aristotle Tutors: Math for the Masses

Aristotle or Bust!

Frequently Asked Questions

So what is this whole online tutoring thing? How can I learn any math this way? Does this really work? You can find some clarification and explanations here.

How does this work?

Very simple. The student calls our number and reaches his/her tutor. They both log on to the whiteboard (the tutor gives the student the password). The student asks the tutor questions, or asks for help with a homework assignment, and the tutor explains the math over the phone while drawing or writing on the whiteboard to make the explanations easier.

How do I sign up?

To sign up for lessons, email us at larisa@aristotletutors.com or call us at (800)881-0248 (or just go to the contact page and fill out the form). Consult the schedule page and let us know what time you would prefer for your lesson; also, let us know what kind of math you are taking, what you need help with, and what grades you are currently getting.

What equipment do I need to be tutored online?

You need a web browser and a phone. If you like, you can also add a webcam; we have a webcam connected to our Yahoo Messenger and AIM accounts, so you can see the tutor (and any visual displays the tutor provides). But this is not too essential; the important thing is the phone and the online whiteboard.

What if I don't live in the United States and can't call your 800 number?

We use Skype - our Skype ID is aristotletutors. You would need to install their software on your computer, and have a good microphone and good speakers, and then you'll be able to talk to us for free. However, please email us at least 12 hours in advance and tell us when to expect your call.

How much does this cost?

Our sessions cost $40/hour. Tutoring appointments are typically one hour long, once a week. If the student is very far behind and needs a lot of help, we may recommend that you come twice a week.

Can you answer questions by email?

Sure! Just go to the quick question page and send in your question (limited to school math only, please) along with $5. We will answer within 24 hours.

Can you tutor me by Instant Messenger?

Sure, though it is not as efficient as phone contact. Our AIM username is aristotletutors; or you can contact us through Yahoo Messenger at aristotletutors_larisa. If one of us is online, we'll be able to help you easily.

Can I see this online whiteboard?

Sure; we have a demo of it here. The non-demo one is bigger, though.

How do I pay for my tutoring session?

Just go to our rates page and push the correct Paypal button. You can pay securely by credit card that way.

Can you send me extra assignments or practice problems to do after our tutoring session?

Gladly! We can either fax them to you, if you have a fax machine, or scan them in and email them to you, or just draw them on the whiteboard and let you copy them down. Then, we can correct the homework together at the next tutoring session.

Can I fax you my homework assignment or page from a textbook?

Yes! We have a fax machine, connected to the same toll-free number as our phone. Just give us a call before you send your fax so we know when to plug it in. You can also scan your papers and email us the scanned file - email it to larisa@aristotletutors.com.

Do you tutor in other subjects?

Some, yes. Here is a short list of other subjects we can help you with:

  • Physics (school or college level)
  • Biology (school level)
  • SAT preparation (both math and English); GRE preparation (all sections)
  • LSAT preparation

Why did you name your business Aristotle Tutors?

Because Aristotle was, perhaps, the world's most famous tutor - he taught Alexander the Great. Click here for more information about him - he was a great scientist and philosopher, and worth knowing about.

Will you do my homework for me?

No. But we will gladly explain to you how to do it yourself.
